Rumbling — Privacy Policy

In short: Rumbling does not collect, transmit, or store any of your
personal data on the developer's servers — there are none. Your notes stay on your
device and, if you choose, in your own GitHub repository. We never see them.
Who this applies to
This policy covers the Rumbling mobile application (the “App”), a
note-taking app that stores notes on your device and optionally syncs them to a
GitHub repository that you own and control.
Data the developer collects
None. Rumbling has no backend server, no analytics SDKs, no
advertising, no crash-reporting service, and no tracking. The developer receives no
information about you or your usage of the App.
Data stored on your device
- Your notes are stored in a local database on your device.
- Your GitHub access token (see below) is stored using the
platform's secure storage — Android
EncryptedSharedPreferences on
Android and the Keychain on iOS.
- App settings (such as theme and reminder preferences) are stored
locally.
This data never leaves your device except to sync with GitHub, as described next.
GitHub authentication & sync
Rumbling uses GitHub's OAuth Device Flow to let you sign in to your own
GitHub account. When you sign in and enable sync:
- An access token is issued by GitHub and stored securely on your device. It is sent
only to GitHub's official API (
github.com and
api.github.com) to authenticate your requests.
- Your notes are read from and written to a GitHub repository that you
own (for example
rumbling-notes). The contents of that repository are
governed by your GitHub account settings, not by this App.
- The token is granted the
repo scope so the App can read and write the
notes repository on your behalf.
Your interactions with GitHub are subject to
GitHub's Privacy Statement.

Permissions the App requests
- Internet — to communicate with GitHub for sign-in and sync.
- Notifications — to show optional local daily reminders. No data
leaves your device; reminders are scheduled on-device.
- Run after reboot — to re-schedule your local reminders after the
device restarts.
Deleting your data
- Sign out in the App to delete the stored GitHub token from your device.
- Uninstall the App to remove all locally stored notes and settings.
- Delete the GitHub repository in your GitHub account to remove the
synced copy of your notes.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new
“Last updated” date.
